Senate Republicans are reportedly frustrated by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's negotiations with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a new coronavirus stimulus deal as he is making "unaccepted compromises". According to The Washington Post, “Mnuchin continues to negotiate and make concessions, giving rise to the new round of complaints,” one Senator GOP aide said, “He negotiates harder with his own side than he does with her. Folks over here are sick of it.” Despite President Trump insisting on a deal before election day, Politico reported Tuesday that while discussions continue, it is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell who has been urging the White House not to reach an agreement with Pelosi before Election Day, worried it might interfere with or delay their rushed confirmation of Trump's latest (of three) Supreme Court picks, Amy Coney Barrett. The stimulus talks, which have lasted more than 90 days, have seen the Democrats asking for higher investment in the stimulus deal, and the Republicans asking for a lower number. Mnuchin is committing to a figure of roughly $1.9 trillion, which is already too high for many Senate Republicans. Mnuchin's wife, Louise Linton, who actually grew up in a castle, apologized after backlash for a now-deleted Instagram post, which contained tagged designers and some tone-deaf comments like, "Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband?," and some other bizarre comments about black men.
