Into the Metaverse is Adidas Originals' upcoming collection of nonfungible tokens (NFTs).
This asset is not yet available for sale, but it has been revealed that it is a token intended to grant holders access to physical and digital merchandise, products, and services within the newly acquired Sandbox, in addition to rewards.
At the time of writing, the collection will be sold for 0.2 ETH, via the firm's official website on Dec. 17.
Adidas Originals announced on Dec. 2 their entry into the metaverse through partnerships with GMoney, PUNKS Comic, and Bored Ape Yacht Club believe metaverses will be a place where anyone can express their original ideas and be authentic.
Adidas also purchased Ape #8774 on Sept. 17 for 46ETH, or a little over $150,000 at the time. Ape #8774 is a blue-furred, heart-bespectacled ape wearing a fisherman's hat and wearing a gold hoop earring.
The ape was presented with an Adidas tracksuit bearing the logos of the three partners, as well as a sideways Adidas logo.
GMoney talked about how he supported the brand's entrance into the space in a culturally-sensitive way, stating:
"Since April, I have been guiding them with their strategy, giving feedback on ideas, to make sure that they enter the space authentically. The most authentic entry into the space so far has been Adidas, and I think we are seeing that play out now. "
As opportunities presented by Web 3.0 become apparent, several established corporations, celebrities, and cultural influencers have announced their intentions to develop or participate within the NFT and metaverse space.
The recent acquisition of virtual sneaker brand RTKFT by Nike, a direct competitor in the sportswear industry, added Nike to the metaverse.
