Three power plants in Iran will sell their surplus thermal energy to Bitcoin miners to ramp up their revenue and ease pressure on the national grid. Cryptocurrency miners have put enormous pressure on the national power grid in Iran and the upward consumption trend has increased concerns among energy officials that their willingness to work with Bitcoin minders will only enhance Iran's standing as a global Bitcoin mining hub. In January, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade issued over 1,000 licenses for cryptocurrency mining hardware.
